Pride of place this week goes to the Under 13 Ladies Football team who successfully defeated St. Josephs, Templemore on Friday November 20th in Golden in the County Final. There were great performances all over the field from this very determined group of players. This was the second year in a row that the Under 13 Ladies Football team have won the County Final and what made the result all the more remarkable was that there was only one of last year's starting team still in the school along with the fact that the team had to go up a division following last year's success. Thanks to all of our very vocal supporters who came to the game, the parents and school staff who helped to bring the pupils over to the game and Golden Kilfeacle GAA club for the use of the pitch and facilities. Also, a special word of thanks to Brian Leamy and Tommy Boles who put up the goals and organised the pitch. Match report and more photos will follow later.
This week, we received a visit from St. Anne's secondary school who gave a chemistry and physics lesson to all the senior classes. Some of the experiments involved creating carbon dioxide bubbles, using dry ice, surface tension, making "elephant's toothpaste", pressure points, centrifugal forces and creating sound waves using smoke rings . Thank you to Ms. Treacy, her Transition Year assistants and our past pupils Aoife and Loren for their fun and informative lesson.
Having successfully learned all 42 sounds in the Jolly Phonics list, the Junior Infants have now started on their reading book programme. No doubt this will help to create a life-long love of reading in all the pupils.
The Under 13 Ladies Football team will play St. Josephs Templemore on Friday, November 20th at 12.30pm in Golden GAA field.

4th, 5th and 6th class paid a visit to the University of Limerick on Tuesday, November 10th to take part in the Maths Magic Workshop. The workshop was one of a series of events being held in the University as part of Science Week Ireland. Ben Sparks from the University of Bath was the guest speaker on the day. The workshop demonstrated and experimented with ways of producing shock, surprise and magic (with a little help from maths!). Some of the content included number tricks, proof (including some algebra) and card tricks. As well as attending the workshop, the pupils got a chance to experience a little bit of college life in the impressive surroundings of UL.

http://peaceproms.com/buy-tickets/ Maths lessons in 2nd and 3rd Class this week involved learning more about 3-D shapes both in the classroom and in the environment around us. The pupils then used some 3-D shapes to help create lots of different environments such as a forest, a beach and a city.
