We are delighted with this new space and we look forward to moving in during the month of June.
Our new classrooms are almost ready. There are some finishing touches to be completed but we are nearly there! We are delighted with this new space and we look forward to moving in during the month of June. Fundamental Movement Skills and Gaelic Football activities were the order of the day for Week Four of our Sports Skills Challenges. All of our pupils from Junior Infants up to 6th Class have shown wonderful engagement in all of these activities so far and we're pleased to report that the skill of kicking off both left and right legs has shown a great improvement!
We are also delighted to integrate our weekly activities with the "Let's Play In May" initiative currently being promoted by Munster GAA Coaching and Games Development and Tipperary GAA Coaching and Games Development in primary schools throughout the province. It was another lively afternoon of rugby for 1st & 2nd Class as they had their third coaching session this week courtesy of the Munster Rugby Development Coaching Programme. Plenty of future rugby stars in the making!
We were delighted to welcome Brian Leamy and Michael Stapleton from Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club along with Shane Luby and Darren Lowry from Kilfeacle & District RFC to the school this afternoon where they presented us with a cheque for €4,643.73 following the recent Keep It Moving Challenge.
Many thanks to both clubs for the wonderful generosity that they have shown towards the school. We reached the penultimate rugby coaching session with James from Kilfeacle & District RFC this week. Our focus for this session was on kicking, in particular the grubber kick and the drop kick. We're looking forward to next week's session already!
Following on from her Zoom call two weeks ago, we were delighted to get a chance to talk with Rebecca from the Sea Synergy Marine Education Centre in Kerry once again this week. The main emphasis for this Zoom call was presenting our projects based on the tidal zones. Thank you once again to Rebecca for providing us with the opportunity to learn so much about Irish Marine Biodiversity this year!
Week Three of our Sports Skills Challenges saw the pupils taking part in a combination of Fundamental Movement Skills, Gaelic Football and Hurling activities. Very impressive skill levels, agility and footwork on display from everyone once again - great progress is being made by all the pupils each week!
Congratulations to Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club and Kilfeacle & District RFC for organising the hugely successful Keep It Moving fundraiser. The final total raised was an incredible €24,025. Huge thank you to everyone who participated and, of course, all those who donated so generously. Thomastown National School is very grateful to be one of the main beneficiaries of this fundraiser.
Ní neart go cur le chéile. The pupils in 1st & 2nd Class got their first taste of rugby coaching as well this week through the Munster Rugby Development Coaching programme. Great fun was had by everybody and the pupils are already looking forward to next week's session!
We were back on the rugby pitch this week for another top-class coaching session courtesy of James and Kilfeacle & District RFC. This week's session was based on improving our reaction times and footwork. Thanks to James for another enjoyable morning of rugby!
