We wish all our pupils and their families an enjoyable summer break. The school will reopen again for the 2019/20 academic year on Monday, September 2nd. Click on the link below to download the 2019/20 School Calendar which provides a list of the school closures currently approved for 2019/20. We said goodbye and good luck to the 6th Class pupils who completed their primary education in Thomastown N.S. today. We wish them well as they embark on the next stage of their education in secondary school and thank them for the respect and courtesy they showed to everyone as well as the good example they displayed to all the other pupils in the school. Go n-éirí an bóthar libh!
Huge thanks to Tipperary Senior Hurler, Noel McGrath, who visited the school yesterday to present the Cumann na mBunscol Under 13 Hurling, Under 13 Football and Under 11 Ladies Football medals. As well as presenting the medals, Noel also give the pupils some advice and tips to help them improve as players. Good luck to Noel and the Tipperary Senior Hurlers in the Munster Senior Hurling Final on Sunday v Limerick.
The ice-cream van visited the school today to celebrate the last day of the school year and the start of the summer holidays. There was great excitement and the pupils were delighted to have the opportunity to cool down following the day's activities. Thank you to the Thomastown N.S. Parents Association who organised the visit.
Members of the Tipperary Civil Defence visited the school and spoke to all the classes regarding the work that they do in relation to Search & Rescue and the different equipment that they use to help them including 4x4 vehicles, boats, command and control vehicles, trained search dogs and remotely piloted aircraft (drones). They also provided the pupils with some tips that could be used should someone find themselves in difficulty when outdoors.
The Civil Defence brought with them a drone that they use on a regular basis and the pupils were showed how the drone works and we were delighted to have some photos of the school taken with the drone. Congratulations to the pupils from Thomastown N.S. (Ella O'Donnell, Kim Byron, Laura Kennedy, Grace Hayes, Leah McGrath, Grace Tuohy and Lily Flannery) who recently won the County Under 12 A Ladies Football Final with Galtee Rovers.
Sophie O'Toole (2nd Class) recently cut her hair so that it could be used to make wigs which are provided to children who have suffered hair loss from cancer. Well done Sophie on such a kind-hearted gesture!
5th and 6th Class visited the Maharees in Castlegregory, Co. Kerry for their school tour where firstly they tackled the waves of the Atlantic Ocean in Brandon Bay on boogie boards. They then spent time in the Sandy Bay Waterpark on the Tralee Bay side of the Maharees. It was an action packed day for all the pupils.
Infants and 1st/2nd Class visited Fota Island Wildlife Park in Cork on their school tour this year. The pupils received a guided tour of the park and learned lots about the different species they saw as well as getting a chance to speak to the staff about their daily experiences of caring for the animals. A wonderful day was had by all!
Well done to the Under 13 Hurling panel who performed so well in the County Final in Semple Stadium today. Unfortunately, we didn't get the result we wanted but the panel can be very proud of their efforts throughout the year and the manner in which they represented the school. Final score was Boher N.S. 2-07 Thomastown N.S. 2-05. Congratulations to Sam Hall who was Player of the Match today also following his performance in midfield.
