A repeat of the show is also available on Sky channel 191 on Tuesday at 1.30pm and Thursday at 11.30pm. Just ahead of the summer holidays, the senior pupils were given a very informative talk on farm safety and the importance of being vigilant of the dangers on the farm, on the road and in the environment around us. Many thanks to Simon Ryan, Willie Phelan and Pat Wade who gave the talk.
After many, many weeks of hard work and collecting, Friday June 10th saw the completion of the Copper Mile Challenge. The wet weather meant that some of the event was moved indoors and a sea of copper coins could be found in each of the classrooms. The collection buckets were emptied and everybody got down to the hard task of completing the mile. Many thanks to everyone who helped place the coins (pupils, parents, teachers, family members and people from around the community), everyone who baked and provided refreshments, everyone who donated coins and the members of the Parents Council who thought up of this novel idea in the first place. Irish TV were on hand to film the event which will be broadcast on either on June 25th or July 2nd while Tipp FM also made a recording to be broadcast on the station. Well done to everyone involved! Also, best wishes to Irish TV presenter Fiona O'Sullivan who will represent Tipperary at the Rose of Tralee in August.
Congratulations to past pupil Eimear Heffernan who won the All Ireland Camogie Feile Skills Final at the National Sports Campus in Dublin on June 11th. Eimear faced stiff competition from 26 other County representatives from around the country and emerged victorious following the completion of the competition. Well done Eimear!
Double congratulations go to Emer McCarthy this week. She spent the June Bank Holiday weekend in the University of Limerick with the South Tipperary School Girls Soccer squad as they took part in the Gaynor Cup. In UL, South Tipperary played divisional squads from all over the country and they reached the Plate Final of the competition where they played Inishowen/Donegal and narrowly lost this game 3-2 on penalties. This Sunday, June 12th, Emer will play for the Tipperary Primary Games Ladies Football team who will play at half time during the Tipperary v Cork Munster Senior Football Championship game. Well done to Emer on her success so far this week and good luck on Sunday in Semple Stadium! Congratulations to the Under 13 Hurling team and the Under 13 Camogie team who were both crowned County Champions last week in Semple Stadium. The Under 13 Hurling team defeated Mullinahone NS while the Under 13 Camogie team defeated Ballylooby NS. The Under 13 hurlers had to defeat Loughmore NS, Upperchurch NS and Dromakeenan NS along the way to get to final while the Under 13 Camogie team accounted for St. Joseph's Templemore, Rosegreen NS, Upperchurch NS and Carrig NS Nenagh to reach Semple Stadium. Both teams showed great heart, determination and no little skill in their respective finals and not for the first time they have done the school proud again!
A reminder to everyone that the Copper Mile Challenge in association with Thomastown NS Parents' Council takes place this Friday (June 10th) starting at 11am in the school. Anyone who has any spare coins lying around at home is asked to bring them into the school over the coming days so we can reach our target. Remember, every coin counts!!
Best wishes to all our past pupils who are starting their Junior and Leaving Certificate exams on Wednesday.
All of the classes received a visit from Learn It Lego Education. The pupils were introduced to the theory behind working with simple machines using gears, levers, pulleys and transmission of motion, following a design brief as part of the engineering process, building and exploring real life machines and mechanisms and investigating powered machines with motors. A great day was had by all creating their respective designs.
