Pupils took part in a series of fantastic matches, representing the World Cup teams and showing great skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout. Each day brought thrilling games, impressive goals, and lots of cheering from supporters on the sidelines. Well done to everyone who took part and helped make the lunchtime World Cup Soccer League such an enjoyable experience!

From start to finish, the day was packed with excitement, teamwork, and plenty of laughter.

The pupils had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities, including the ever-popular aquapark, high nets, archery tag, and team-building challenges.

A special word of thanks goes to the supervisors at Ballyhass Adventure Centre, who were incredibly helpful and professional throughout the day. Their guidance and encouragement ensured that all activities ran smoothly and safely.

It was a brilliant day out that will be remembered fondly by both pupils—especially the 6th Class pupils, for whom this was their final primary school tour—and staff alike.

]]><![CDATA[Victor Stud Visit]]>Sun, 28 Jun 2026 21:06:09 GMThttps://www.thomastownns.com/school-blog/victor-stud-visitWe were delighted to visit Victor Stud recently following an invitation from Godolphin Ireland. The stud farm is only a short walk from the school, so we donned our hi-vis jackets and headed off.

Thank you to Paddy Dunne and all the team at Victor Stud, who showed us around the farm and explained the work involved in running and maintaining such a busy operation. They demonstrated how to measure and weigh a horse, as well as highlighting the importance of good grooming, healthcare and feeding. We learned about microchipping, examined a horse passport, and saw the horse weighbridge in action, along with the machinery used each day on the farm. At the end of our visit, Paddy very kindly gave each pupil a goodie bag to accompany the information book we received at the beginning of the tour.

We were also very lucky to be at the stud on the same day as the farrier, which gave us the opportunity to learn about the importance of his work as well.

Thank you to everyone at Victor Stud who helped to make it such a memorable and enjoyable day out.

Nearly two hundred pupils from the two schools took part. Well done to the 5th & 6th Class pupils from both Thomastown NS and Golden NS who organised and managed the blitz. Also, many thanks to the referees who kept things running smoothly throughout the day.

]]><![CDATA[Analog Devices Primary School Robotics Competition]]>Sun, 28 Jun 2026 20:21:27 GMThttps://www.thomastownns.com/school-blog/analog-devices-primary-school-robotics-competitionCongratulations to our robotics team who successfully qualified for the final of the Analog Devices Primary School Robotics Competition following an impressive performance in the semi-final held in Limerick recently.

The competition, which promotes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) among primary school pupils, brings together young innovators from across the region to showcase their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Over the course of two challenging and action-packed days, the Thomastown NS team demonstrated remarkable dedication and ingenuity. The pupils were tasked with designing, building and programming their own robot from scratch — a challenge that required not only technical skill but also strong collaboration and perseverance. In addition to the robotics element, the team also created an engaging posterboard display and confidently presented their project to the judges.

This was the school's first time entering the competition. Well done to our team who represented the school so well over the course of the semi-final and final.

Representing Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football, they played a key role in their side’s victory over Cork Ladies Gaelic Football in a recent final.

This is a wonderful accomplishment, and we are extremely proud of their success and dedication to the sport. We look forward to following their continued progress in the years ahead.

]]><![CDATA[Athassel Abbey Tour]]>Tue, 02 Jun 2026 20:41:57 GMThttps://www.thomastownns.com/school-blog/athassel-abbey-tour5007626Our 3rd – 6th Class pupils visited Athassel Abbey recently where we were given a guided tour by local historian and our past pupil, Colin Tuohy. At the site, Colin explained the importance of the abbey to the local area and its vast history. Colin also gave us a fantastic insight into what life was like in the abbey and the surrounding area 800 years ago.

Many thanks to Colin for providing us with an informative and insightful tour and for showing us how lucky we are to have such an important piece of history in the parish and right on our own doorstep!

]]><![CDATA[Automated External Defibrillator (AED) At Thomastown National School]]>Tue, 17 Feb 2026 21:49:14 GMThttps://www.thomastownns.com/school-blog/automated-external-defibrillator-aed-at-thomastown-national-schoolThe Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that has been installed at Thomastown National School is now fully operational.

The AED is located on the wall inside the side gate of the school (photographs below).

The AED has been registered with the National Ambulance Service. If anybody in the locality calls 999, they will be informed of the location of this device.

If any member of the community has reason to use this AED, they are asked to inform a member of the school staff of this at the earliest opportunity. This is important as we will need to arrange for necessary checks to be carried out to ensure that the device is ready for use again.

Thank you to the parents of our school for their financial contribution to this venture. Their generosity has covered the cost of the installing the AED in a heated cabinet that will protect the device from cold weather conditions. We have just over €500 left over after all costs have been finalised. This money will be donated to Bansha Community First Responders and it will go towards installing another AED in the local area. Sincere thanks to you all for your support of this hugely worthwhile cause. Our thanks also to Bansha Community First Responders for collaborating with us on this project.
