Good luck to Thomastown N.S. past pupils Emer McCarthy, Fiona Tuohy, Kate Flannery, Emma Ryan, Michelle Ryan and Denise Ryan who are part of the Galtee Rovers Ladies Football team playing in the Munster Ladies Football Junior Club Championship Final v Donoughmore from Cork on October 26th.
Today saw many spooky and scary ghosts, witches and zombies attend school for the day. There were also some soccer players, hurlers, rugby players, Spiderman, Iron Man, fairies and even a banana thrown in for good measure!
We wish all our pupils a happy and safe Halloween break. The school will reopen again on Monday 4th November. The Junior and Senior Infants were busy in class today creating some pumpkins during Art to celebrate the upcoming Halloween holidays.
On Tuesday 22nd October, our 3rd & 4th class pupils took part in the FAI Primary Schools Futsal Blitz. This blitz was played in Canon Hayes Sports Complex in Tipperary Town.
Futsal is similar to 5 a side soccer. It is played with a smaller ball and some of the rules are slightly different. This was a non-competitive blitz and we got to play against lots of other schools from the area. Our pupils were presented with participation certificates at the end of the day. We all thoroughly enjoyed this event. Two members of the Tipperary Fire Brigade visited 3rd and 4th class this week to provide the pupils with some simple tips to keep themselves and all of those around them safe from fire. The pupils were encouraged to use STOP as a reminder:
All of the classes in the school are currently participating in the Food Dudes healthy eating programme. It works by changing children’s attitudes towards healthy eating, allowing them to cultivate a liking for fresh fruit and vegetables. Built and developed on three pillars of scientific merit, (1) repeated tastings, (2) rewards and (3) role modelling, Food Dudes has proven itself as an effective evidence-based school-based healthy eating programme. The pupils in the junior classes are taking part in Phase One which is a 16-day school-based intervention with repeated tastings of fruit and vegetables. The pupils in the senior classes will receive repeated tastings of fruit and vegetables over an 8-day period.
Congratulations to our Under 11 Ladies Football team who defeated Burncourt on Wednesday in the County Semi Final. The girls are now looking forward to playing in the County Final after the mid-term break. Well done everyone!
Huge thanks to Golden Kilfeacle Ladies Football Club who this morning very kindly presented the school with new footballs in their ongoing promotion of ladies football in the parish. Thanks to James who came to make the presentation. The footballs will no doubt get plenty of use over the coming months!
Our Under 11 Football team went to Dundrum on Monday to take part in the Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol Blitz. Played in very wet conditions, the team won all their group games against Ayle, Donaskeigh and Rahealty. They then had to play Tankerstown in the Blitz Final. This was a very exciting and close game which ended in a draw after normal time. Extra time then had to be played and following a titanic battle Thomastown emerged victorious. The team has now qualified for the County Final to be played after the mid-term break. Well done everyone!
Congratulations to Golden Kilfeacle who won the West Under 11 Football Final at the weekend. Well done in particular to team members Charlie, Conor, Iobhar, Grace, Nicholas and Cathal who are pupils in Thomastown N.S.
