FAI Schools Primary 5s Blitzes

21/2/2024

It was a busy few days for the 5th & 6th Class pupils this week as they participated in the FAI Schools Primary 5s blitzes. Two teams headed to Cahir Park AFC on Monday for their qualifiers while another two teams were in Peake Villa AFC, Thurles today for their blitzes. Well done to all four of our teams who performed so brilliantly throughout and we had two fantastic days out. Thanks to Declan Barron, Tracy Gleeson and everyone in FAI South Tipperary and FAI North Tipperary for organising all the games.

Congratulations to our girls' squad who qualified for the County Finals in a few weeks time. The girls won the three games in their group and also won a playoff final v Dualla NS today to qualify. The final finished level after normal time, went to extra time but both teams still couldn't be separated at that stage so we went to a penalty shootout, which we thankfully won!

1st & 2nd Class had a great time at the hurling blitz in The Abbey School yesterday. Thank you very much to Denis O'Mahoney and David Byrne from Tipperary Games Development for inviting us along. We had a fantastic time. Thank you also to the staff and students in The Abbey School for their hospitality. A special word of thanks to Daniel, our past pupil, for keeping us topped up with tea and coffee throughout the day!

Peace Proms 2024

7/2/2024

After many weeks of learning lyrics and dance moves in school, we were delighted to once again be part of the wonderful Peace Proms - Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland performance on Sunday 28th January in the University of Limerick. In front of a huge audience of excited family members, past pupils and friends, schools from Tipperary, Cork, Clare, Limerick, Offaly and even as far away as Galway gathered in the UL Arena.

Sixty-two pupils and staff members from Thomastown NS formed part of the Peace Proms choir, which comprised of over one thousand singers on the day. The pupils got the chance to perform with the incredible Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and talented singers and musicians such as Lauren Murphy (vocal soloist), Conal Duffy (uilleann piper), Richie Dunne (violinist), Grahame Harris (pipe major), the New Ross Pipe band as well as Highland and Irish dancers. The performance was led by the world-renowned conductor, Greg Beardsell.

Many traditional, classic and modern songs and pieces of music such as an Abba Medley, Pirates of the Carribbean, Belfast Child, Nothing Compares to You and You're the Voice to name but a few were performed on the day.

This is the fourth time that the school has performed in the Peace Proms and we hope to have many more opportunities in the future to take part in such a brilliant event!
