Our pupils would like to send a message to everyone taking part in the Keep It Moving Challenge organised by Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club and Kilfeacle & District RFC this weekend... If you would like to donate then please click on the following link: gf.me/u/zqrw39 It was great to welcome back James from Kilfeacle & District RFC for more rugby coaching this week. We were delighted to get back out on the pitch again and practise our skills. Thank you to James for another fun and enjoyable session!
5th & 6th Class were delighted to welcome back Rebecca from the Sea Synergy Marine Education Centre in Kerry for another Zoom call this morning. During Rebecca's last visits to us in November and December, we looked at Irish Marine Biodiversity. The focus this time was on the tidal zones and the common species found in these zones. Thank you once again to Rebecca for another fascinating and informative presentation.
We're looking forward to another Zoom call in two weeks when we will present our projects on the tidal zones. At this time of year, we would normally be busy taking part in Cumann na mBunscol games, soccer blitzes etc. As none of these competitions are going ahead this year, we have decided to run our own set of sports skills challenges. Each week, a skill from a different sport will be demonstrated. Children will have a few days to practice the skill by themselves and they will have the opportunity to complete their challenge in school on Fridays. All pupils in the school, from Junior Infants up to 6th Class, will be participating in these challenges.
This week's skills were based on Gaelic Football. Junior & Senior Infants worked on their fundamental movement skills, 1st & 2nd Class focused on hand-eye coordination while the emphasis for 3rd & 4th Class was on hand-passing and the skill for 5th & 6th Class involved kicking off both legs. Thank you to Mr. Ryan who set this week's challenges. Everyone had great fun on Friday displaying their newly acquired skills. We can't wait to start working on next week's skills! We are delighted to come on board with Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club & Kilfeacle RFC for this year’s “Keep It Moving” Challenge. This was a very successful event last year. All funds raised were distributed between local organisations.
This year the funds raised will be shared between Golden Kilfeacle GAA, Kilfeacle RFC, Thomastown NS, Scoil Chormaic and Scoil Aonghusa. All funds that we receive will be put towards the development of facilities for our new ASD Class. The “Keep It Moving” 24 Hour Challenge will begin at 9.00am on Saturday 1st May. If your family is interested in doing one hour of exercise during these 24 hours, please get in touch with us and we will pass your details on to the organisers. A GoFundMe page has been set up for anyone who would like to donate to this event. This page can be accessed by clicking on the following link: gf.me/u/zqrw39 All support for this event would be very much appreciated as it will support a range of organisations within the local community. Information relating to the “Keep It Moving” Challenge will be available on our School Facebook and Twitter pages. We are very grateful to Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club and Kilfeacle RFC for including Thomastown National School in this fundraising event. |
