We were delighted to receive a Zoom call this morning from Rebecca in the Sea Synergy Marine Education Centre in Kerry. Rebecca's presentation was based on Irish Marine Biodiversity. We learned about all the creatures that live in the ocean and on the seashore as well as the importance of the ocean to the world. Thank you to Rebecca for a fantastic presentation, our respect and interest in marine life and the ocean has certainly increased greatly. We're already looking forward to another Zoom call in two weeks time when we will show Rebecca the completed project work that she assigned us today.
Week seven of our rugby coaching with Kilfeacle & District RFC saw us introduced to the skill of the tackle using tackle bags. We also worked on our speed and agility as well as our ball handling skills. Huge thanks to James and Gavin for another fantastic coaching session!
Our school extension isn't the only building currently going on in Thomastown NS as 1st & 2nd Class have been busy planning all week and construction began today. Surprisingly, a number of properties have reached roof level already and a few have even had the decorators in...more to follow!
All this week, ahead of the 100th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, we remembered the fourteen people who went to a match in Croke Park but sadly never came home.
Best wishes to the Tipperary Senior Footballers on this historic weekend. Tiobraid Árann Abú! We took part in a County Colours Day in the school today to show our support for the Tipperary GAA teams who have given us such enjoyment over the past few months. This event was organised by Tipperary Cumann na mBunscol. It was great to see such wonderful colour and enthusiasm around the school, well done everyone!
3rd & 4th Class enjoyed taking part in "Brainteaser Bandits" this week. This event was part of the Limerick Festival of Science. We completed a series of Maths challenges using dice, playing cards, tangrams and sudoku. Fantastic brainteasers from the Limerick Festival of Science and STEM Education at Mary Immaculate College.
There was great excitement today as the Junior & Senior Infants began GAA coaching. Their focus for the next few weeks will be on football. They worked on their fundamental movement skills, played some games and had great fun!
Also, huge thanks to O'Rahelly Sports in Tipperary Town who sent out the gum-shields for all the Infants in such a speedy and efficient manner, a great service! James from Kilfeacle & District RFC was back again this week for our sixth rugby coaching session. The focus for this week was on speed and agility using ladders. Another enjoyable and fun session, thanks James!
As part of our farm theme this week, we did some milking in the Infant room today. Lots of future farmers in Thomastown NS!
