'Twas The Night Before Christmas...and in their own inimitable style our pupils would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
We hope everyone in our school community has a very safe and restful Christmas break and we look forward to seeing you all once again in 2022! Thank you very much to everyone who supported our Christmas Draw. We raised a total of €4205. This money will be used to develop the play areas in our school. We very much appreciate the support of our local community. We held our draw yesterday. The winning tickets were drawn by the youngest and oldest children in the school. Congratulations to all of the prize winners:
We were delighted to welcome some very special visitors to the school today. Santa, Mrs. Claus and Jerry the Elf took time out of their busy schedules to say hello to the boys and girls in Thomastown. The elves set up a grotto in the Rainbow Room and everyone got to have a chat with Santa about their Christmas plans. Alex provided lots of musical entertainment with her accordion around the school today, creating a lovely festive atmosphere - well done Alex! Thanks also to Trevor in Sir Rowlands Bar for providing treats for the children.
Our pupils loved meeting Santa and they can't wait for him to call to their houses on Christmas Eve! It's been a busy few weeks in the classroom as the senior pupils completed lots of SESE related activities. Some of these activities included producing carbon dioxide using vinegar and baking soda which then helped to blow up a balloon, making a lava lamp and completing a project on a chosen country from Asia. After all that, it's time for a well-earned rest for everyone before it all begins again in 2022!
Our hallway transformation is now complete! Thank you so much to our staff members Ciara and Jenny for all of the unbelievable work that they have done on this project. Over the past few weeks they have been working tirelessly to draw and paint well known characters from our favourite books onto the hallway wall. The finished result is amazing. We are delighted with this fun and colourful hallway that our pupils can explore and enjoy for many years to come. Thank you to our talented duo for creating this wonderful feature in our school.
3rd-6th Class completed a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) workshop recently in conjunction with Go Fly Your Kite, Mary Immaculate College and the Tipperary Festival of Science. The workshop firstly involved a Zoom presentation with Glenn and George from Go Fly Your Kite which looked the history of flight as well as discussing what an object needs in order to be able to fly. Glenn and George then gave a tutorial on how to build a kite. After that, the pupils designed and built their own kites using the kits provided. Thankfully, the recent windy weather has provided perfect kite flying conditions around the Thomastown area!
For a recent procedural writing task, 5th & 6th Class had to plan and write a recipe of their choice. As well as completing the written task, the pupils also decided that they would try out their recipes at home. The results were fantastic - we had scones, muffins, cookies, milkshakes, apple tarts, quiche, salads, pancakes, scrambled eggs and even a traditional fry. Super work as always from everyone!
