We were absolutely delighted to welcome members of Golden Kilfeacle GAA club to the school on Friday. The entire school community came together to celebrate their incredible achievements as the County Intermediate Hurling and County Under 19 Football Champions (and, as of today, we're delighted to add County Junior B Football Champions to their long list of achievements this year!).
We were particularly delighted to see our past pupils returning to share in this joyous occasion. Their success and dedication continue to make us proud. It was a fantastic chance for our current pupils to engage with these role models and learn from their experiences. Thank you to Jack Leamy, Sam Hall, Aidan O'Connell, Niall Heffernan, Colin Tuohy, Shane O'Connell, Jack Bergin, Ben Currivan, Daniel Quealy and Harry Fogarty for taking the time to come to the school on Friday. An Gabhailín/Cill Fiacaile Abú! Our younger pupils have been getting ready to cheer Golden Kilfeacle GAA to victory! Good luck to everyone involved in Saturday's County Intermediate Hurling Final. Our pupils have a special message for the Golden Kilfeacle GAA Intermediate hurlers ahead of the County Final on Saturday. Best of luck to everyone involved and all our past pupils! All our pupils really enjoyed taking part in the whole school parish GAA blitz along with the pupils in Golden National School prior to the summer holidays. They played two hurling games and two football games with the emphasis on participation and enjoyment for all. The teams were well managed by the 5th & 6th Class children in both schools.
Thank you very much to James McCarthy and Golden/Kilfeacle GAA for helping to organise this event. We said goodbye to our wonderful 6th Class pupils who completed their primary education in Thomastown NS today. We wish them well as they move on to post-primary school and thank them for the wonderful contribution that they made to school life over the years in Thomastown NS. Go n-éirí an bóthar libh!
Our Le Chéile classes had a brilliant time on their school tour to Jurassic Newpark in Kilkenny last week. Our thanks to Garda John Hennessy who provided transport to and from Kilkenny on the An Garda Síochána Tipperary Community Bus.
Everybody was in safe hands for the day! Míle buíochas duit. The senior pupils in the school were delighted to receive a visit from the Thomastown Heritage Group recently. Two members of the group, Martina O’Keeffe (our former principal) and Eddie Fitzgerald, made a very detailed presentation on the history surrounding Thomastown Village and Thomastown Castle. When the presentation concluded, we then set off on a field trip to Thomastown Castle where we received a guided tour of the ruins from Mary Alice O’Connor and we learned all about the history of the castle and the surrounding area.
On our return to the village, we attended the unveiling of a commemorative plaque which celebrates the importance of many sites in and around the village. The plaque was unveiled by two of Thomastown’s most celebrated residents, Essie O’Connell and Mary Crosse. We extend a huge thank you to the Thomastown Heritage Group (Cliodhna Hanley, Eddie Fitzgerald, Agnes Ryan, Mary Alice O’Connor, Martina O’Keeffe, Robert O’Keeffe and Joe Lonergan) who provided us with such a wonderful and unique opportunity to discover more about our local area. It was fascinating to learn about so much local history right on our own doorstep. We also want to extend our thanks to the group who provided us with some very welcome refreshments during our field trip to Thomastown Castle. |
