Our Infants have just finished a very special project. They have made Christmas Cards for each resident in St. Martha's Nursing Home. They loved writing little notes to the residents and hope they all enjoy them. Well done Infants!
It has been a busy few weeks in 1st & 2nd Class! Construction work has stopped and our houses are finally finished. To get us in the festive mood, we have even turned on our Christmas lights!
As part of our extension project, we intend to develop a new play area at the rear of our school. The location of the proposed new play area is highlighted in the images below.
We will hold a Christmas draw on Monday 21st December 2020. All funds raised will go towards the development of this play area. The families in the school will be provided with tickets for this draw. Additional tickets will be available from the school office.
Your support with this fundraiser is very much appreciated. By the end of this school year, we will hopefully have a new spacious and colourful play area in our school that will be enjoyed by our pupils for many years to come.
The blockwork on the school extension is nearing completion. Work on installing the new wastewater treatment system has commenced and the roof trusses were delivered yesterday. This delivery operation was very well supervised by our Junior Health and Safety officers!
The photographs below show the current view of the construction site.
We’re really enjoying reading Paddy Stapleton’s new book ‘Up In The Air’ in class. Although we can’t play any matches at the moment ourselves, we’re pucking every ball with Fitzy, Lizzy, Bones and the rest of the Glenstown team!
Another great week of rugby coaching with James from Kilfeacle & District RFC. We did some more work on our passing and we're delighted with the progress from week one until now!
We were delighted to receive a Zoom call this morning from Rebecca in the Sea Synergy Marine Education Centre in Kerry. Rebecca's presentation was based on Irish Marine Biodiversity. We learned about all the creatures that live in the ocean and on the seashore as well as the importance of the ocean to the world. Thank you to Rebecca for a fantastic presentation, our respect and interest in marine life and the ocean has certainly increased greatly. We're already looking forward to another Zoom call in two weeks time when we will show Rebecca the completed project work that she assigned us today.
Week seven of our rugby coaching with Kilfeacle & District RFC saw us introduced to the skill of the tackle using tackle bags. We also worked on our speed and agility as well as our ball handling skills. Huge thanks to James and Gavin for another fantastic coaching session!
Our school extension isn't the only building currently going on in Thomastown NS as 1st & 2nd Class have been busy planning all week and construction began today. Surprisingly, a number of properties have reached roof level already and a few have even had the decorators in...more to follow!
All this week, ahead of the 100th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, we remembered the fourteen people who went to a match in Croke Park but sadly never came home.
Best wishes to the Tipperary Senior Footballers on this historic weekend. Tiobraid Árann Abú!
