Everybody was in safe hands for the day! Míle buíochas duit.
Our Le Chéile classes had a brilliant time on their school tour to Jurassic Newpark in Kilkenny last week. Our thanks to Garda John Hennessy who provided transport to and from Kilkenny on the An Garda Síochána Tipperary Community Bus. Everybody was in safe hands for the day! Míle buíochas duit. The senior pupils in the school were delighted to receive a visit from the Thomastown Heritage Group recently. Two members of the group, Martina O’Keeffe (our former principal) and Eddie Fitzgerald, made a very detailed presentation on the history surrounding Thomastown Village and Thomastown Castle. When the presentation concluded, we then set off on a field trip to Thomastown Castle where we received a guided tour of the ruins from Mary Alice O’Connor and we learned all about the history of the castle and the surrounding area.
On our return to the village, we attended the unveiling of a commemorative plaque which celebrates the importance of many sites in and around the village. The plaque was unveiled by two of Thomastown’s most celebrated residents, Essie O’Connell and Mary Crosse. We extend a huge thank you to the Thomastown Heritage Group (Cliodhna Hanley, Eddie Fitzgerald, Agnes Ryan, Mary Alice O’Connor, Martina O’Keeffe, Robert O’Keeffe and Joe Lonergan) who provided us with such a wonderful and unique opportunity to discover more about our local area. It was fascinating to learn about so much local history right on our own doorstep. We also want to extend our thanks to the group who provided us with some very welcome refreshments during our field trip to Thomastown Castle. Congratulations to our 2nd Class boys and girls who celebrated their First Holy Communion recently. Thank you very much to everyone who helped out with this special occasion.
We had beautiful sunshine for our Confirmation ceremony on Friday. Many thanks to everybody who contributed to this special occasion. Following the ceremony, Archbishop Kieran O'Reilly planted a tree in the church grounds to mark the Jubilee Year 2025. Very well done to our 5th & 6th Class.
Best wishes to our pupils receiving the sacrament of Confirmation tomorrow (Friday 16th May) in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Golden. They have prepared diligently over the past number of months and we hope that both they and their families have a memorable day.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Scarecrow Festival this year. We had a wide range of characters on display in our school throughout the past few weeks!
We were delighted to welcome our new Junior Infants to the school a few weeks ago. They have all settled in really well into life in Thomastown NS and we can't wait to work with them over the next few years.
We look forward to what is sure to be another busy and exciting year with all our pupils in Thomastown NS! Congratulations to Brian Cahill following his conferring last week as a Doctor in Education from UCC. A wonderful achievement following countless hours of work, study and research over many years. Well done to Dr Brian from all your Thomastown NS colleagues and the entire school community!
6th Class were delighted to visit Victor Stud prior to the summer holidays following an invitation received from Godolphin Ireland. The stud farm is only a short walk from the school so we donned our hi-vis jackets and headed off. Thank you to Paddy, Colette, Mick and John from Godolphin Ireland who showed us around the farm and explained to us the work involved in running and maintaining such a busy farm. They explained how to measure and weigh a horse as well as the importance of good grooming, healthcare and feeding. We learned about micro-chipping, examined a horse passport and we also saw the horse weigh bridge in action along with the machinery in use each day on the farm. At the end of our visit, Paddy very kindly gave each of the pupils a goodie bag to go with the information book we received at the beginning of our visit. On our way back to the school, we were delighted to receive more refreshments courtesy of our past pupil, Sophie O'Toole, at Thomastown Cross!
Thank you to everyone at Victor Stud along with Sophie who helped to make it such a memorable and enjoyable day out. Congratulations to Lucy Hall, Tomás Leahy, Avril Marnane and Benjamin Moloney who won the Plate Final at the Inter Schools Tennis Tournament in Lattin Lawn Tennis Club recently. Many thanks to the organisers. Very well done to you all!
