Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st Class & 2nd Class made the trip to Kilkenny this year for their school tour when they visited the Castlecomer Discovery Park. The pupils took part in activities such as the Junior Woodland Adventure Course, the Bouncing Nets, Nature Trail with Scavenger Hunt and Woodland Bug Detectives. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed an active and fun-filled day! Our Infants, 1st Class and 2nd Class pupils had a brilliant day of football and hurling on Thursday in a Parish Blitz with Golden NS in the GAA field. Over 100 pupils from the two schools took part. Also, well done to the 5th & 6th Class pupils from both Thomastown NS and Golden NS who organised and managed the blitz!
Our Le Chéile classes had a fantastic trip to Leahy's Open Farm for their school tour last week. The pupils got the chance to pet some animals, go on a barrel ride and complete a very fun obstacle course! A great day out was had by everybody!
A sample of one of the many activities from our Fundamental Movement Session with David Byrne, West Tipperary GDA and part of the Tipperary GAA Coaching & Games team! Junior & Senior Infants took part in a Fundamental Movement Session courtesy of David Byrne, who is the West Tipperary GDA and part of the Tipperary GAA Coaching & Games team. All of the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the brilliant session. Huge thanks to David for coming over to the school and giving his time so freely.
We wish the best of luck to our former pupil Lily Flannery who will be playing for Tipperary in the All Ireland Under 14 Ladies Gaelic Football Final v Derry on Saturday 10th June. Beir bua Lily!
We were delighted to visit Victor Stud today following an invitation received from Godolphin Ireland. The stud farm is only a short walk from the school so we donned our hi-vis jackets once again and headed off this morning. Thank you to Willie, Colette, Mick and John from Godolphin Ireland who showed us around the farm and explained to us the work involved in running and maintaining such a busy farm. They explained how to measure and weigh a horse as well as the importance of good grooming, healthcare and feeding. We learned about micro-chipping, examined a horse passport and we also saw the horse weigh bridge in action along with the machinery in use each day on the farm. At the end of our visit, Willie very kindly gave each of the pupils a goodie bag to go with the information book we received at the beginning of our visit. On our way back to the school, we were delighted to receive more refreshments courtesy of Nicholas O'Toole at Thomastown Cross!
Thank you to everyone at Victor Stud along with Nicholas who helped to make today such a memorable and enjoyable day out. 5th & 6th Class visited Athassel Abbey yesterday where they were given a guided tour by local historian, John Cash. At the site, John explained the importance of the monastery to the local area and its vast history. After the visit, the pupils had lunch by the River Suir and made their way back to Golden for a well deserved ice-cream to help them cool down!
Many thanks to John Cash for such an interesting tour and showing us how lucky we are to have such an important piece of local history in the parish and right on our own doorstep! |
