Le Chéile
In September 2021, we opened our Le Chéile Class. This special class caters for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
This special class is part of a continuum of educational provision that enables students with more complex special educational needs to be educated, in smaller class groups, within their local mainstream school. It offers a supportive learning environment to students who are unable to access the curriculum in a mainstream class, even with support, for most or all of their school day. Students enrolled in special classes may be included in mainstream classes to the greatest extent possible, in line with their abilities.
A maximum of six children may be enrolled in our Le Chéile class. This class is staffed by one Special Education Teacher and two Special Needs Assistants.
Applications to our Le Chéile Class will only be considered on the basis of a diagnostic or psychological report stating that the child has a primary diagnosis of autism meeting the DSM IV/V or ICD 10 criteria.
The report must also contain a recommendation that a special class placement in a mainstream school is necessary and suitable for the child.
Applications for a place in our Le Chéile Class will only be accepted during the timeframe as outlined in our Annual Admissions Notice.
