The Infant Classroom received a visit from Mary in Sizzars Hair Salon in Cashel for this week's Aistear and SPHE lesson. The pupils learned all about the importance taking good care of their hair. Mary also very kindly brought some prizes which were raffled with the class. We have joined the Healthy Ireland "Health Promoting Schools" programme which is run by the HSE. It aims to acknowledge the work that schools around the country do in trying to improve the health of their school community. The newly formed school committee had their first meeting on February 10th and began the process of putting the school plan in place.
Any parents, family members or friends that are hoping to attend the Peace Proms Concert are asked to note that tickets must be purchased from the CBOI website directly. No tickets can be purchased from either the school or The Hub in Kilkenny on the day. Tickets are selling fast so those who are travelling are asked to buy their tickets sooner rather than later. Also, please note that there are two shows taking place on Saturday, March 5th. Thomastown NS will be performing in the 2pm show so you are asked to note the time when purchasing your tickets.
Tickets are priced at 15 euro per person or 50 euro for a family of four and must be purchased directly from the CBOI website - www.cboi.ie or by clicking the following link http://peaceproms.com/buy-tickets/ 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class made the journey to The Hub in Kilkenny on February 9th to take part in the rehearsals for the upcoming Peace Proms Concert which will take part on March 5th at 2pm at the same venue. Having spent the past number of weeks learning both the words and actions to the many songs that will form part of the show, the pupils were finally able to put into practice what they have learned.
The rehearsal was led by Greg Beardsell who works as a conductor, singer, musician and beatboxer and has directed numerous choirs. It was a fantastic experience and if today was anything to go by then the show promises to be a great event as there will be many soloists and a full orchestra performing also. A special word of thanks to the Thomastown NS Parents' Association who made a very generous contribution to both the bus and the food. We look forward to our next trip to Kilkenny on March 5th. The Spring Edition of the Thomastown NS Parents' Association Newsletter is now available to download by clicking the link below. This edition includes information on all of the latest activities and initiatives taking place in the school
The pupils have all been working very hard to follow the healthy lunches policy in conjunction with Operation Transformation. Everyone has been asked to bring in water to drink rather than any fruit and yoghurt drinks. There has been an increase in the amount of fruit in the lunch boxes and there are some very tasty and healthy sandwiches to be seen everyday. Well done everyone, keep up the good work!
To celebrate the feast of St. Brigid, the pupils created their own St. Brigid's Crosses. The finished products certainly turned out to be very impressive.
